Datalight announced today the release of a new performance enhancing flash file system for Microsoft Windows Mobile offering up to 100 times faster file open operations, a key metric of device responsiveness. File open lag time is a common source frustration for users of smart phones, cameras, and personal navigators when they are attempting to playback music, video, images, and other files. The new Windows Mobile flash file system is comprised of the well-known Datalight Reliance and FlashFX® Pro products, and also boasts six times faster writes, and random reads/writes at twice as fast as the default flash file system included with Windows Mobile.
“Our customers use Windows Mobile for its flexibility and ease of integration,” said Datalight CEO Roy Sherrill, “Now they have the option of adding incredibly fast performance, making the Windows Mobile platform a truly no-compromise solution.”
The updated flash file system includes many features important to Windows Mobile-based design teams, such as block locking, one-time programming, bootloader integration, and power suspend/resume. In addition, developers familiar with Datalight FlashFX Pro products will recognize and appreciate the company’s trademark toolkit for working with flash that includes image creation, NAND simulator, flash life estimator, and a comprehensive flash file system benchmarking test suite. Other enhancements for flash include support for over 300 flash parts and the use of both static and dynamic wear leveling which doubles the life of flash media.
